Photoshop is quite flexible when it comes to editing techniques. Any RAW file opened in Photoshop automatically gets opened in Camera Raw and gives you the facility to edit it using the same options as of Lightroom. JPEG files can also be used in Camera Raw where you can use the sliders and same settings. While editing, you may need to use some Camera Raw options that you like.

  • First of all, to edit a file, you need to create a duplicate layer of the original image. It is to preserve the original image as it is!
  • Go to Layer> Duplicate Layer. It will create the copy of your image.

Use of Camera Raw Filters in Photoshop

  • Now head over to Layers Palette and go to “Convert to Smart Object”. After converting it, you can then make necessary changes in Camera Raw filter.

  • If you don’t like the changes, you can any time go back to the original image and then apply the changes again.
  • Once the layer is transformed to the smart object, navigate to Filter>Camera Raw Filter and then open the image there.

  • By using the Camera Raw filter, you can use the same options as you use in Lightroom. Use split toning options by going to split toning settings. Make the required changes.
  • Click OK. It will take you back to Photoshop after exiting from Camera Raw.
