How to Do Photo Skin Retouching in Photoshop

Photographers have the urge to achieve the beautiful skin in the end pictures. The skin looks natural and realistic if the picture quality is perfect and the photographer knows how to retain that gorgeousness. Good lighting and properly applied makeup helps a lot in achieving the flawless look. If the results don’t come out to be perfect, then you can use Photoshop for the retouching thing that will give the perfect pictures.

Retouching is a simple process of dealing with dark patches, blemishes, wrinkles, fine lines, marks and spots. Any dust, flakes of makeup, hair or tiny strands of fur etc. can be removed using this technique. Skin problems are quite visible and noticeable which can be adjusted using photo retouching. Take a look at the steps how to do photo skin retouching:

Step 1

Open the image in Photoshop. It will be the background layer. Now create an empty layer on the top.

Step 2

Now to do the touch-ups, use the clone stamp tool or healing brush tool. If the area you are going to retouch is smooth, you can use the spot healing brush tool. While using the healing brushes, the tool option must be checked to Sample All Layers. While using the clone stamp tool, the tool option must be set to Current and Below. I would suggest using the small brush at 50 or 75% hardness level to ensure better touch-up.

Step 3

Select the new layer. Zoom in and set the healing brush larger than the spot or blemish you want to remove. Give a clear view to the color of the skin and where it changes. You will have to use the brush accordingly to get the best results. Keep the brush over the blemish and click. Don’t rub or paint or drag as it will make the retouch visible.

Step 4

Clone stamp tool is good for some touch ups while healing brush is good for others. The clone stamp tool works perfect with the makeup lines or removing hair strands. Set the cloning at 20% opacity and move further with the sampling of the area to be touched up.

Step 5

If you want to lighten the wrinkles or fine lines, clone stamp tool is the best pick. Natural results are achieved using this tool and fine texture comes out in the end picture.

Step 6

If you feel that the touch-up is not as expected, select the eraser tool and erase the touch-up. To make the touch up blend in well, use a layer mask or reduce the opacity of the retouched layer.
Hope you get the steps of how to do effective photo skin retouching in Photoshop. Enjoy retouching your favourite but not-so-attractive pictures.
